Altar servers assist the priest during the celebration of Mass and for other liturgical celebrations and devotions. Children and young adults from the age of 10 and up are encouraged to serve as Altar Servers. Because of their involvement with the liturgy, the ministry of altar server leads children to a greater appreciation of the Mass, and a deeper awareness of the importance of Christian service. Please contact Deacon Paul Koppie; pmkoppie@stmichaelfl.org, or the church office at (727) 797-2375 x215.
Adult altar servers are also needed. They help to serve the weekday and Saturday 8:00 morning Masses and other liturgical celebrations including funerals. To find out more about this ministry, please contact Tracy Marshall at (727) 432-0128.
Extraordinary Ministers are appointed ministers and empowered by the Pastor to distribute Holy Eucharist to assist the clergy in distribution of Holy Communion at Mass, and visit the homebound, aged, and sick so that they may receive the Eucharist and remain connected with the parish community. We are always in need of more men and women. Please contact Sue Styles at (727) 781-5144.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God, lead the Prayer of the Faithful and make announcements for the weekend Masses, Holy Days and special liturgical celebrations throughout the year. Adults and youth with excellent reading ability and a strong speaking voice are encouraged to inquire. Volunteers receive initial training, attend an annual workshop and are provided with ongoing guidance and support throughout the year. For further information or to volunteer for this very important ministry, please contact Nancy Faucette at (727) 204-8495.
When you sing, you pray twice. Why not join our choir and make your voice heard? The music ministry consists of the Chancel Choir, Contemporary Choir, and a Youth Ensemble.
The Chancel Choir members are high school age and older. This choir provides music for the 11:00 AM Mass on Sunday and for special liturgies throughout the year. Our adult Contemporary Choir sings routinely at the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass. The Junior Choir for children sings monthly during the school year at the 9:30am Sunday Mass. For more information about these choirs please contact Liz Lyons at (727) 797-2375, Ext 237.
Men, women and confirmed youth help prepare the altar, vestments and set-up the vessels for the weekday and Sunday Masses as well as special liturgies. Sacristans, if needed, may also serve as altar servers for weekday Masses, weddings, funerals or special occasions when youth servers are not available. To find out more about this ministry, please contact Tracy Marshall at (727) 432-0128.
The ministry of ushers is the oldest lay ministry in the Catholic Church. The ushers of today have descended from a long line of people of God who have gone before them. During the time of Christ, the doorkeepers of the temple numbered in the hundreds and were the forerunners of today’s ushers. Today, the usher’s primary duties and responsibilities include greeting and welcoming parishioners, maintaining order, controlling movement throughout the service, collecting and presenting the weekly offertory during Mass, and assisting and directing people should an emergency develop. They are the caretakers of the church and all its Parishioners, material items, and treasures.
If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please contact Anthony Carbone at (727) 786-5771.
This ministry is dedicated to greeting and welcoming parishioners to our Church. If you are a friendly person and wish to share your smile with others, join this ministry. Please contact Richard and Kathy Clark to find out more about this program at (727) 797-2375.
The Church is decorated according to the liturgical season and for various events. If you have talent in decorating and would like to contribute time to preparing our church environment seasonally, please contact Denise McCracken by calling the church office at (727) 797-2375.
