In 1960, groups of Columbian Squires in Mexico, Canada and the US decided to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe by carrying a rose across North America from Canada to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. In recent years the program has expanded to eight silver roses traveling the western, central, and eastern corridors of North America, with Knights of Columbus from Canada to Mexico carrying the roses from destination to destination, and finally to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. Since 2001, this annual journey has been bestowed with the additional name of “One Life, One Rose” to commemorate the Knights’ dedication to the sanctity of human life. Every stop along the route of the Silver Rose Pilgrimage is an occasion for prayer and spiritual renewal centered on the rosary. One of the Silver Roses will be at St. Michael’s after each of the Masses next Sunday on its journey of honoring Our Lady. Please take a moment to spend some time with the Silver Rose to pray and reflect on Our Blessed Mother and her intercessions for us in our times of spiritual need. There will be a short prayer ceremony by the Knights after the 11 AM Mass and 3 PM Misa.
